Railways in the UK

UK is the mother country of railways. there are so many unique trains and railways; Preserved railways, steam locomotives, trams, old viaducts, high speed trains on mainlines.
I am eager to visit railways in the UK, especially preserved railways, Cornwall, Isle of Man some day.

Preserved railways

	[Lakeside & Haverthwaite railway] A preserved railway in the Lake district. Oct 1993. My hostfamily said "It is a little difficult for British to pronounce Haverthwaite." Really?
a ticket	[Bluebell Railway] (Click here to jump to the Bluebell Railway's web page) A famous preserved railway in Sussex. Mar 1995. Not only preserve but extended to Kingscote. Great!

Trams and Lightrails

	[Metrolink] (Click here to jump to the Metrolink fare page) Greater Manchester Light Rapid Transit system, opened in 1992. 1435mm(4ft 8in1/2)gauge, 750V dc electrified. There are not low-floor cars but no vertical gap between train and platform. Extensions proposed.
	[Blackpool tram] (Click here to jump to the Blackpool's web page) (Click here to jump to the Fylde Tramway society Homepage) Opened in 1885. Blackpool is the largest holiday resort in North England with the amusement facilities include promenades, known for their "illuminations", and a tower 152m(500ft) high.

	[Intercity express trains] Fast and comfortable service without extra charge on main lines.

Stations

	Preston station. Oct 1993. Preston is the administrative headquarters of Lancashire county, I have stayed in Chorley near by.
	Tunbridge Wells station. This town is known for "Pantiles". I have stayed in this town in Mar-Apr 1995
	Edinburgh Waverley station. Oct 1993. This beautiful city is popular among tourists from Japan.

Dismantled
